Violence at Howe Community Park Wounds Four People Injured in Sacramento County's Arden-Arcade Neighborhood

Sacramento County Sheriff's Office investigators are looking into a shooting that broke out on April 18 2026 at the Howe Community Park area at the moment Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies were shutting down an unauthorized event of multiple hundreds of people.

Prior to the Shooting

Sacramento County law enforcement were Howe Park Sacramento gunfire first dispatched to Howe Community Park shortly before half past six in the evening after obtaining information of individuals who may have had concealed firearms. Soon after, a follow-up call was made about a possible fight happening at Howe Park.

An overhead unit flew over the park but was unable to locate the reported altercation. Despite this, it became clear that a massive group had congregated at Howe Park without official sanction.

When the Shots Rang Out

Officers started clearing the unauthorized gathering by setting up around the park's perimeter and broadcasting over loudspeakers telling the hundreds present to leave immediately. Nearly 15 minutes were given for the crowd to leave.

It was during this dispersal that 20 to 25 gunshots cut through the air. The rapid succession of shots sparked chaos as hundreds ran. Deputies quickly moved to identifying shooting victims.

Four Gunshot Victims

In total, four people were discovered with shooting injuries. The four individuals — made up of one woman and three men ranging in age through their in their mid to late twenties — were taken to nearby hospitals. Hospital staff stated that two victims were in serious condition, one victim's injuries were classified as moderate, and one sustained minor gunshot wounds. Fortunately, each of the four victims was stable.

Sacramento fire crews were called to the scene and aided in treating those with gunshot wounds prior to hospital transport.

The Investigation

The primary shooting scene was believed to have unfolded near Cottage Way near the local Home Depot situated at the 2200 Howe Avenue block. Detectives located more spent casings along Cottage Way. Ballistic damage were discovered in the wrought iron fence surrounding the nearby Home Depot. This evidence showed that one of the gunmen had been shooting in a southerly direction from the Cottage Way area aimed at the Home Depot store. The Home Depot was locked down during the incident. CSI investigators and detectives kept processing evidence through the early morning hours.

Suspect Information

Information obtained over scanner radio traffic confirmed that a Kia vehicle was contacted by law enforcement in the Solano County area. Four occupants were detained. Sacramento law enforcement were sent to retrieve the detainees to bring the suspects back for processing in Sacramento County. Video that was reviewed established that two shooters had been involved.
